A smart bookshelf stretches to any size you need (pictures)

Nest expandable bookcase

Designers from a Tokyo-based design studio Nendo understand the importance of indoor space.

Sometimes you need more shelves for books, but sometimes, especially when you read many books on the Kindle, what you need is to squeeze the bookcase, and not get rid of it.

That’s why they created Nest – the bookcase that can resize to fit whatever space you need.

Expandability is possible because thin horizontal sections are sandwiched between carbon fiber.

Both sections are coated with a larch veneer, resulting in a 4.8 mm thick shelving hidden within the 9.6 mm thick outer shelving.

This award-winning piece of furniture can double its width, from 650 mm to 1,300 mm. Extending the shelf halfway results in a grid shelf layout with rows of square shelves (see below).
