The 11th-generation Kindle is available in black and white, comes with free Kindle Unlimited, and costs $89.99.
Were you wondering when the next-generation Kindle would be released? A few days ago, we’ve predicted the new Kindle should be launched in a few days, weeks at latest, and we were right!
Amazon has just announced that the new entry-level Kindle is available for pre-order and will start shipping on April 10, 2019.
The new basic Kindle (11th generation according to how Amazon counts the models) has two major new features.
First of all, it comes with a front-lighted display. Four LED lamps embedded around the screen will spread an even light letting you read in the dark without the need to turn on an external source of light.
Amazon is proud of that feature, saying that the newest basic Kindle is “the first Kindle with a front light for under$100.”
It has its price, though. Kindle 2019 costs $10 more than its predecessor. The cheaper variant with special offers will cost $89.99, compared to $79.99 of the previous-generation Kindle that was released back in 2016.
The second major improvement is the display. It has the same resolution of 800 × 600 px, and the same pixel density of 167 ppi as the predecessor, but offers a better contrast, which means the screen is whiter than before.
When you first see the new Kindle, it looks lighter and smoother than the Kindle 8. It’s because of friendlier, curved shape. However, the new Kindle is not smaller. Its width and height are the same as the 2016 model. On the other hand, the depth has been reduced by 0.4 mm, to 8.7 mm (0.34 in).
You’ll be surprised to discover that the new-generation Kindle is heavier than the previous model. Because of the front light system, the 2019 Kindle 11th-generation weighs 6.1 oz (174 g) compared to 5.7 oz (161 g) of the previous model.
Just like Kindle Paperwhite 4, the new Kindle is offered with three months of Kindle Unlimited free of charge. The subscription is worth almost $30, and you will receive instructions by email how to redeem it.
Were you expecting the new Kindle to come with bigger storage options to handle more audiobooks? You won’t like the news. The new model comes with the same storage of 4 GB, out of which some 3 GB are available to the user.
Opposite to Kindle Paperwhite 4 – and just like the predecessor – Kindle 2019 is available in two colors: black and white.
As I’ve already mentioned, the version with ads costs $89.99. If you want to get an ad-free variant, you will have to spend $109.99.
The international version is available in white and it also costs $109.99.
