Why read to kids 20 minutes a day introduction

Reading strengthens a child’s network of knowledge, improves relationships, and improves literacy skills.

If you read to your preschool kids for 20 minutes a day, they will hear 1.8 million words a year. A result? On standardized tests they will likely score better than 90% of their peers.

Take a look at the infographic from Every Child Reads, which compares what happens if you read to your kids for 20, 5, and 1 minutes a day. And reading for just 5 minutes will make your kids score better in tests than half of their peers.

We are stuck trying to decide what we can make time for and what needs to wait until “later.”  So why is it so important to read to our children 20 minutes a day?
