Amazon is right now sending out emails to Kindle users informing about two major improvements made to the Send to Kindle feature.

These changes apply to documents that are being added to your Kindle library through the Kindle e-reader or the app for iOS, Android, and Mac.

Improvements to pdf files

First of all, from now on, if you import a pdf file with the “Keep original layout” option enabled, the imported document will support text selection, search, and hyperlinks.

You will be able to highlight the text, as well as make text notes. Smart Lookup feature will also work in this document.

Improvements to epub, html, txt, and rtf files

Do you want to add to your Kindle library a file in epub, htm, html, txt or rft file format, or a doc, docx or pdf with “Make layout adjustable” enabled?

The new feature will let you benefit from Page Flip on your Kindle or in a Kindle app. Page turn animation is now also supported, as well as some Enhanced Typesetting features.

Page Flip is an advanced Kindle book navigation feature that makes it easy to explore books without loosing your latest read position.

Send to Kindle is Amazon’s free tool that allows you to send documents to your Kindle library on your Kindle e-reader, Fire tablet, or Kindle app.

You can upload documents through the web, an authorized email address, the Kindle app for iOS and Android devices, or a Send to Kindle application (if available).

It’s worth highlighting that all documents sent through Send to Kindle are protected with end-to-end encryption.

Note: Just a reminder that since the beginning of 2023 you can’t add mobi files to your Kindle. Epub is now the file format that’s accepted by Amazon.

How to spot AI-generated Kindle Unlimited ebooks https://ebookfriendly.com/how-to-spot-ai-generated-kindle-unlimited-ebooks/ https://ebookfriendly.com/how-to-spot-ai-generated-kindle-unlimited-ebooks/#comments Tue, 04 Jul 2023 12:27:23 +0000 https://ebookfriendly.com/?p=157521 AI-generated books may seriously harm the publishing industry, and digital subscriptions are prone to be hit the hardest.

There is a growing list of books published with the help of artificial intelligence.

Everyone knows the story of Ammaar Reshi, a product manager for a Silicon Valley fintech company, who used ChatGPT and Midjourney to create a children’s book Alice and Sparkle

Since August 2022, a Canadian artist Tim Boucher published almost 100 books that were co-created by AI. Boucher says he needs between 6 and 8 hours to create and publish each of his books. Imagine, a single author capable of publishing hundreds of books a year.

Obviously, ChatGPT takes credits for most of what happens in the publishing industry right now.

Currently, there are already almost 1,000 ebooks in the Kindle Store that are co-authored by AI. Specifically, ChatGPT is listed as one of their authors. These books were created by authors responsible enough to admit they use ChatGPT.

And now we come to the essence of the big problem that’s flooding Kindle Unlimited: lots of newly published books were generated by AI, and you don’t even know about it.

What’s even worse, many of these books made it to the top 100 Kindle bestseller lists. It was first discovered by an indie author Caitlyn Lynch on Twitter (here is a cover story on the Vice):

💬 Take a look at the Best Sellers in Teen & Young Adult Contemporary Romance eBooks top 100 chart. I can see 19 actual legit books. The rest are AI nonsense clearly there to click farm.

How is that possible? It’s directly connected with how digital subscriptions work. As you can download any book at no extra cost, you do it instantly without checking out its content.

And when you open the book on your e-reader or in a book reading app, you just need to read roughly the length of the free sample to make this book considered as read.

The story about nonsense AI Kindle Unlimited books broke at the end of June 2023, and most of these titles are not on the main Kindle bestseller lists anymore. However, they are still on the top 100 lists for subcategories. Luckily, these books have several things in common, and I will discuss them below.

How to spot AI-generated Kindle Unlimited ebooks

The titles are usually written in capital letters

How to spot AI generated Kindle Unlimited books - titles in capital letters
How to spot AI-generated Kindle Unlimited books – titles are written in capital letters

It may obviously change over time, as the creators of these books with try to adapt. But today, most of these AI books come with titles written in CAPITAL LETTERS.

I am not talking about the title that appears on the cover art, but the title that’s a part of the product page description on Amazon.

Here is a screenshot of the Top 100 Kindle bestsellers in the Teen & Young Adult category

Authors have Asian names

How to spot AI generated Kindle Unlimited books - Asian authors
How to spot AI-generated Kindle Unlimited books – the books are published by authors with Asian names

If you spot a book that is published by someone called Lam Dich Quan, Phung Linh Vang or Phuong Tuong, it strongly suggests that its content was generated by AI.

Here is the same screenshot with the highlighted names.

Book covers are made from a template

How to spot AI generated Kindle Unlimited books - the same cover art
How to spot AI-generated Kindle Unlimited books – the same cover art

If you browse Kindle bestsellers lists or search results pages, and notice books with the same cover artwork and different titles, the chances are big these books are AI generated.

Obviously, there are many books that use the same cover artwork, naming only the books from the same series, or free Kindle books that are available in the Kindle Store.

However, compared to book series, the same cover art is used not for a few titles but dozens of them.

Again, let’s have a look at the Top 100 Kindle bestsellers in the Teen & Young Adult catgory.

Same cover art but different authors

If you re still not sure whether the KU book was AI-generated or not, you can compare cover art. If the books with the same cover art template are published by different Asian authors, these books are AI-generated (see the screenshot above).

Books are under 100 pages

How to spot AI generated Kindle Unlimited books - under 100 pages
How to spot AI-generated Kindle Unlimited books – they are under 100 pages

I have run through the entire list of Top 100 Kindle bestsellers in the Teen & Young Adult catgory, to spot the AI titles. Then I opened them their product detail pages.

Out of 24 titles in the Top 100 Teen & Young Adult bestsellers that I considered to be AI generated:

▸ Only one title had a print length longer that 100 (FREE MUSIC by Lam Dich Chinh), with 118 pages).
▸ 13 books were shorter than 50 pages.

Why are these books short? It’s not only about the ease of generating the content. In the case of the digital subscription it’s also about meeting conditions of the read title. The shorter the book, the biggers the chances to get the reader swipe past the required length.

Published in 2023, no publisher

The final place to find out, if the book was generated by AI or not is the “Product details” section.

None of the books I have tested included the “Publisher” field in the Product details” section.

If all the conditions listed above were met, and if the book was published in 2023 or later, you can be sure is was not written by a human but by an AI tool.

How to turn pages in Kindle iPad app with just your voice https://ebookfriendly.com/kindle-ipad-iphone-app-turn-pages-voice-control/ https://ebookfriendly.com/kindle-ipad-iphone-app-turn-pages-voice-control/#comments Thu, 02 Feb 2023 15:42:06 +0000 https://ebookfriendly.com/?p=157404 In this simple guide, you will learn how to read ebooks on your iPad completely hands-free. You can turn pages with just your voice, using a clever feature called Voice Control.

If you read on your iPad for long hours, you know this pain. Holding the device all the time is not convenient at all. Especially, if you switch positions frequently.

Obviously, you can always use accessories for hands-free reading.

However, they don’t solve another problem – the need to touch the display again and again. Ebooks are designed to make reading easier than ever before, right?

Fortunately, the iPad comes with a feature that allows you to swipe left with just your voice.

The feature is called Voice Control. It sits in the Settings app, in Accessibility section.

Voice Control allows you to control your device by speaking commands. With Voice Control, you can open apps, perform touch gestures, create reminders, or make text edits – all with your voice. It is available in over 20 languages and works with several languages at once.

I will guide you through the process using a Kindle app for iPad. This tip also works for other book-reading apps, such as Kobo, Apple Books, Nook, or Google Play Books.

And, obviously, you can use the following guide to enable the voice-operated page turn on your iPhone as well.

Place your iPad on a stand, grab a coffee in one hand, a donut in the other, and enjoy the newest novel from your favorite author to the fullest.

How to turn pages in Kindle iPad app using just your voice

How to use Voice Control to swipe left

1. Go to the Settings app, find “Accessibility” on the list, and then tap “Voice Control” to turn it on.

Find Voice Control feature on the iPad

2. If you haven’t used Voice Control before, tap “Set Up Voice Control” at the top. A pop-up window will appear. Follow the steps to enable the setting.

If you set up Voice Control before, just turn it on.

3. With Voice Control enabled, we now turn on the swipe left function.

Tap “Customize Commands” and then find “Basic Gestures” on the list. Tap to open it.

Enable Basic Gestures in Voice Control on the iPad

4. Scroll down the list to find “Swipe left” feature. Tap to enable it.

Enable Swipe Left basic gesture in Voice Control on the iPad

Here, you can also decide whether you want a confirmation every time you perform the gesture. I would leave the confirmation step unchecked.

Done! From now on, every time you say “Swipe left” your Kindle app (or any other book-reading app) will turn a page. The trick works both in a portrait and landscape mode.

How to quickly enable and disable Voice Control

When the Voice Control setting is enabled, your iPad is listening all the time for voice prompts. It may drain the battery fast.

That’s why, it makes sense to enable the voice-operated page turn only for reading sessions, and disable it when you finish.

There is an easy way to enable/disable Voice Control. You can do it using the Control Center.

1. Go to the Settings app, find “Accessibility” on the list and tap it.

2. Scroll down the list of available options to find “Accessibility Shortcut” at the bottom. Tap it.

3. Scroll down the list of available options to find “Voice Control”. Tap to enable it.

Done! From now on, you can enable or disable “Swipe left” voice command via the Control Center. Swipe down from the top-right corner of the display, and tap Accessibility Shortcut in the Control Center widget.

Tip: If you don’t see Accessibility in the Control Center, you may need to add it to the list of visible options. Go to Settings app, then “Control Center”. On the “More Controls” list, find “Accessibility Shortcut” and tap it. Done!

Amazon Kindle Scribe e-note taking e-reader / Image: Amazon

You can save $65 in total, if you decide to get a version with a free 4-month Kindle Unlimited plan.

What are your New Year Resolutions? To read more, learn faster, write better? It looks like Kindle Scribe is destined for you. The only problem is that it costs $340, and you can’t expect a price cut any time soon.

Kindle Scribe is Amazon’s most innovative device in years. It’s designed for both reading and writing.

The device sports the 10.2-inch glare-free 300 ppi touchscreen display with front and warm light, asymmetric Oasis-style glass front, and a USB-C port.

Most importantly, the Scribe supports handwriting. You can choose from two compatible pens – Basic or Premium – that come free with a chosen variant. It also comes with several templates for handwritten notes.

The first, a rather symbolic, price cut may come in March 2023, for the National Reading Month. However, I believe to see any reasonable Kindle Scribe deal on Prime Day 2023, the soonest.

If getting the Scribe would boost your New Year resolutions, especially when it comes to reading more books, you can take advantage of a new limited-time promotion that has just been revealed.

Add Kindle Scribe to cart, and use the code READWRITE25 at checkout to get a $25 credit that you can use to get ebooks from the Kindle Store. You will be able to redeem your code within 45 days from the shipment date.

$25 is roughly an equivalent of two fully priced books, but if you are determined to hunt for Kindle deals, you can get 25 books for $0.99 each.

What’s more, if you pick up a variant with a free 4-month Kindle Unlimited membership, you will save an extra $40 on Kindle books that are included in the Kindle Unlimited catalog.

The promotion ends on January 4, 2023, 5:00 PM Pacific time. It seems like a lot of time, but I use it to find out whether Kindle Scribe is the device that you would love – or hate.

Kindle Scribe with $25 ebook credit and 4 free months of Kindle Unlimited? It sounds like you won’t need to buy any additional Kindle books to meet your Reading 52 Challenge this year.

10 most interesting books that enter the public domain in 2023 https://ebookfriendly.com/best-books-entering-public-domain-2023/ https://ebookfriendly.com/best-books-entering-public-domain-2023/#respond Tue, 20 Dec 2022 09:05:43 +0000 https://ebookfriendly.com/?p=156942 These books by Virginia Woolf, Ernest Hemingway, Franz Kafka, and A.A. Milne enter the public domain on January 1, 2023. They become available for anyone to use freely.

Every year, at least a few of the books that enter the public domain are worth adding to your reading list or reading challenge.

When the book is in the public domain, you can use or reuse it without limitations. It’s because the book’s intellectual property rights have expired or are not applicable any longer.

And every year, at least a few of these publications are books are worth adding to your

Book Riot has just released a list of the books that enter the public domain in 2023 in the United States. Unfortunately, they link to paid versions of these books on Amazon – which is against the idea of the public domain.

Why should you buy a book today, if you can get it free of charge in a few months, on public domain platforms, such as Project Gutenberg or Internet Archive?

And the 2023 public domain book list is highly attractive. You can find here Franz Kafka’s Amerika, Now We Are Six by A.A. Milne, Virginia Woolf’s To the Lighthouse, Pomes Penyeach by James Joyce or Ernest Hemingway’s Men Without Women.

All you have to do is wait for these titles to be released by the public domain sites. I recommend checking out Project Gutenberg every few weeks. You can add the list of books added in the last 30 days as a bookmark to your browser. On a Mac computer, press Command+D, and on a PC press Control+D.

For your convenience, I have included the links to search term (title+author) on Project Gutenberg. Once the book is released, you will be able to find it in the search results page.

You can add books to your e-reader or e-reading app by picking up EPUB3. This file format is compatible with Kobo, Apple Books, Nook, Google Play Books – and also Amazon Kindle (mobi is no longer supported).

Project Gutenberg is a volunteer effort to digitize and archive cultural works, to encourage the creation and distribution of ebooks. It is the oldest digital library, with over 60,000 free ebooks.

These 20 most gifted books will make perfect gifts in 2023 https://ebookfriendly.com/most-gifted-books-best-gifts/ https://ebookfriendly.com/most-gifted-books-best-gifts/#respond Fri, 09 Dec 2022 15:33:03 +0000 https://ebookfriendly.com/?p=156677 The most appropriate books to gift are the ones that proved to be great gifts. Here are the most popular books bought as gifts on Amazon.

Haruki Murakami once said, “If you only read the books that everyone else is reading, you can only think what everyone else is thinking.”

It applies perfectly to reading, but when it comes to picking up a book to give as a gift, you should rather follow the opposite direction – and gift what everyone else is gifting.

Why are most gifted books the best possible way to avoid that ugly moment when someone is unboxing your present and finds it irrelevant?

There is a general problem with other book recommendation tools: book bestseller lists, book awards, book reviews, or book recommendation from influencers.

Publications included in these lists are great when you are looking for something you’d like to read yourself.

The thing is that not every best selling book would make a great gift. And not every book that’s a great gift would make it to a bestseller list.

The problem with book reviews or book recommendations is even simpler. Someone, even the most renowned authority, can’t know what other bookworms love to read.

What about most gifted books? Thousands of people who have the same goal – find an appropriate gift – can’t be wrong. And you can follow their decisions because they are recommending specific books using their wallets.

Did you know that Amazon has a list of top 100 books ordered as gifts

For obvious reasons, the ranking is mostly populated by books for children, but you can also find here the ones that would make a perfect gift for an adult bookworm in your life.

If you’d like to learn more about the most popular books ordered as gifts on Amazon, make sure to read our expensive guide: Things to know about Amazon’s most gifted books and audiobooks.

Most gifted books are the safest gifts you can buy. However, if you still worry that the book you choose will not be met by the burst of enthusiasm, you should look for a non-book gift for a book lover in your life.

Tip: Most books in the following list are available in print (paperback and/or hardcover), Kindle edition, and as an Audible audiobook.

16 best Kindle Scribe covers for work and pleasure (2023-24 roundup) https://ebookfriendly.com/best-kindle-scribe-covers/ https://ebookfriendly.com/best-kindle-scribe-covers/#comments Mon, 28 Nov 2022 18:17:25 +0000 https://ebookfriendly.com/?p=156471 Here are the best case covers that are compatible with the 10.2-inch Amazon Kindle Scribe reading & writing machine.

The latest, revolutionary Kindle Scribe device is not an e-reader any longer.

Equipped with a large 10.2-inch display, it lets you make handwritten notes, bringing the way you read and learn to a whole new level.

The 1st-generation Kindle Scribe sports the 300 ppi 10.2-inch glare-free touchscreen display that’s enhanced by both the front and warm light.

The e-reader is offered in three storage variants (16, 32 and 64 GB). It comes equipped with a fast USB-C port, and has the asymmetrical look of the Oasis.

You will need a protective cover for your Kindle Scribe more than any other Kindle model. It’s because you will use the Scribe more actively – write on it, not just hold in your hand.

As the Scribe is a new device, with a different size and proportions, new cases from third-party producers are revealed slower than for standard-size Kindle models.

The first, most interesting ones, are listed below.

This overview is developing. Please come back in a few days or weeks to see the newest arrivals.

The best covers for Kindle Scribe so far

1. Marble slimshell case cover for Kindle Scribe

Fintie marble case for Kindle Scribe

▸ From Fintie comes one of the best third-party cases that are compatible with the new Kindle Scribe.

▸ The design is extremely slim and lightweight so that you won’t feel an additional weight when holding your Scribe for longer time.

▸ The most important benefit is a built-in holder for the pen that comes together with Kindle Scribe. The holder is located on the top edge.

▸ The price is set at $29.99, but it’s possible that you will see a status “currently unavailable.” In this case, use Amazon search box to look for “Fintie Kindle Scribe cover”.

Our score: 8.2/10

2. Denim slim case cover with internal pen holder

▸ One of the best third-party slim cases compatible with Kindle Scribe is the model offered by CoBak.

▸ The case sports a solid back shell construction that will resist bumps and mild drops. The plastic frame hides a pen holder, so that your Scribe stylus is protected as well.

▸ The magnetic closuse automatically puts the Scribe to sleep, and wakes it up when you open the front cover.

▸ The company offers 180-day unconditional money back guarantee with a hassle-free customer service.

▸ You can choose from six color variants, Denim Blue and Denim Pink among them. The price is set at $29.99.

3. Floral folio Kindle Scribe cover with two kickstands

A folio stand cover with double kickstand functionality / Image: Amazon

▸ If you are looking for a fashionable case cover that offers a solid folio design, take a look at the model offered on Amazon by MoKo, one of the most trusted third-party case producers.

▸ The case comes with all the features you expect: a support for auto sleep & wake, a hand strap for easy one-handed use, and a stylus loop.

▸ What’s unique is the kickstand, which you can use to position the device not in one but two modes: either a portrait or landscape. This way, you will be able to use the Scribe to work in a two-page, horizontal view.

▸ The case is offered in two color variants: Black, and Black & White Magnolia, with the latter one being one of the customer favorited Kindle case designs.

▸ The price at the time of updating this overview is set at $35.99, but MoKo is often running price promotions.

4. Landscape-ready rotating stand cover with a stylus loop

Landscape ready rotating stand case for Kindle Scribe / Image: Amazon

▸ It’s one of the most original Kindle Scribe covers. Offered by Fintie, it can be rotated so that you can use it either as a portrait or landscape stand.

▸ Both in the landscape and portrait mode, there are two grooves for setting up different angles. Sometimes, you want to make notes on your Scribe. Sometimes, all you need is read, read, read!

▸ Opposite to standard, 360-degree rotating stands, the one dedicated for Scribe is perfectly slim and lightweight, just like you would design it for the iPad.

▸ Magnets in the front panel let you securely close the device. They also work with auto sleep & wake feature, to help save the Scribe’s battery.

▸ You can put your stylus in a loop that’s located on the shorter side of the cover.

▸ At this time, the case is available only in Black. Its price is set at $32.99, but it may jump up and down depending on the demand and ratings.

5. Flexible, slim, soft rubber case for Kindle Scribe

Flexible clear case for Amazon Kindle Scribe

Our pick: Best clear case for Kindle Scribe

▸ If you need a basic protection for your Scribe, and don’t want to invest in a stand case, you can always go for a clear case – a popular solution for tablets.

▸ Take a look at the clear case that’s made of a soft rubber silicone. It’s lightweight but offers an increased protection thanks to raised corners.

▸ The case can be easily attached and detached, and feels good in the hands. The rubber surface will prevent the case from sliding out of your palms.

▸ The long cutout on the right side is designed to let you attach your stylus magnetically.

▸ The price is set at $10.99 at the time of writing this overview. It’s one of the cheapest Scribe compatible cases on Amazon.

Our score: 8.0/10

6. Clear case with a protective pen holder

▸ Here is another clear case for Kindle Scribe. It’s almost identical to the one featured above – with one major difference: the pen holder.

▸ The case extends on the right side to form a cage for your stylus. Thanks to that, your pen will stay safe, regardless of what you are doing.

▸ The transparent rubber silicone will let you enjoy the look of your Kindle Scribe at all times.

▸ The price at the time of updating this post is set at $9.90.

7. Eco-friendly sleeve pouch – perfect for Kindle Scribe

Eco-friendly sleeve pouch for Kindle Scribe
Elago offers an eco-friendly sleeve pouch for Kindle Scribe / Image: Amazon

▸ A clear case will protect your Kindle Scribe when you are using it. A sleeve is a way to protect the device when you are carrying it.

▸ A great thing about sleeves is that they can serve you for longer than just one device. And you can use it for multiple devices and accessories at once.

▸ From Elago comes a soft, cozy, and minimalist sleeve pouch that features a large external pocket that’s perfect for power adapter, earphones, or cables.

▸ The sleeve is made of multi-layer, recycled fiberfill that’s lightweight, eco-friendly, and gives a natural feel every time you take it in your hand.

▸ Most importantly, the sleeve is waterproof, thanks to using the waterproof nylon material on the outside. It’s a practical option if you want to have peace of mind and your Kindle is not waterproof.

▸ Elago sleeve is designed for 10-11 inch devices, so it will fit the 10.2 inch Kindle Scribe perfectly.

▸ The regular price is set at $28.99.

8. Vera Bradley cotton sleeve and organizer

Vera Bradley fashion sleeve for Kindle Scribe

Our pick: Best tablet organizer for Kindle Scribe

▸ From Vera Bradley comes the most fashionable item in this overview – the Cotton Tablet Organizer. Its size makes it easy to slide your Kindle Scribe inside.

▸ As other tablet organizers, the Vera Bradley bag comes with several utilities: two slip pockets, two mesh pockets, three card slips, four pen slips, and one ID window.

▸ The bag is made of a sustainable recycled cotton fabric and “and has all of the comfort, softness, and vibrancy that you know and love.”

▸ The sleeve is padded for increased comfort and protection. Plus, there is a handle to let you carry it with ease.

▸ Vera Bradley Kindle organizer is available in eight fashionable designs, including Ikat Island, Java Navy Camo (shown above), Indiana Rose, and Plum Pansies.

▸ The regular price is very Vera Bradley – $45. However, for a limited time, you can get it for $31.99.

Our score: 8.0/10

9. Official Amazon cover for Kindle Scribe 1

Original Kindle Scribe 1 case cover from Amazon
Original Kindle Scribe 1 case cover from Amazon / Image: Amazon

▸ If no other item on this list gets your attention or earns your trust, you can always buy an original case cover offered by Amazon.

▸ The case features a vertical tri-fold design and folds back through the top edge.

▸ You have two options to attach a stylus. You can use a dedicated holder that’s located at the bottom edge. Or you can attach the pen magnetically to the side of your device.

▸ You can choose from three color variants that are in line with 11th-generation Kindle color code: Black, Denim, and Rose.

▸ The cover opens and closes to wake up or put your Kindle Scribe to sleep.

▸ The fabric cover is the most affordable variant of official Amazon cases for Kindle Scribe. Yet, it’s pricier than any third-party alternative. It costs $59.99, and you can’t expect a price cut any time soon.

10. Folio case with a kickstand and hand strap

Folio Kindle Scribe cover with a kickstand and hand strap
Folio Kindle Scribe cover with a kickstand and hand strap / Image: Amazon

▸ If you prefer a design that will help you get that good old feel of a paper notebook, you should go for a classic folio case cover.

▸ The cover is crafted using techniques similar to traditional book binding. There is a faux leather material on the outside and soft microfiber inside.

▸ All layers combined provide a solid protection not only against dust, but also bumps and shock.

▸ The cover comes with a kickstand and two hand straps that will let you use it with either the right or left hand.

▸ There are four colors to choose from: Black, Blue, Pink, and Navy.

▸ The regular price is $32.99. It’s too early to see price cuts.

11. Kindle Scribe Essentials bundle with a cover and charger

Amazon Kindle Scribe 1 Essentials Bundle
Amazon Kindle Scribe 1 Essentials Bundle / Image: Amazon

▸ If you are going to invest in a case cover, and if you believe the best one comes from Amazon, you can go for a bundle, not a case.

▸ Kindle Scribe Essentials bundle includes, besides the device (16 GB), two other elements: a vertical fabric cover in one of three colors, and a power adapter.

▸ What you need to know is that Kindles no longer come with a power adapter. If you need a new charger, you will have to buy it separately – or get a bundle.

▸ The total value of the three elements in the bundle is $420, but you can get it for $380 – and it’s the regular price of the bundle. From time to time, you may see the price drop by even $40 more.

12. Elegant suede Kindle Scribe sleeve with pen holder

Slimmest Kindle Scribe sleeve with pen holder / Image: Amazon

▸ If you are looking for the slimmest possible sleeve which will accommodate just your Kindle Scribe, the one from Walnew is almost perfect.

▸ The sleeve is made of faux leather with a suede-textured surface. Inside, there is a soft lining made of microfiber, to give an extra protection against dust and scratches.

▸ The sleeve closes with a magnet to make sure your Scribe won’t slide out when you carry it.

▸ You can securely store your Scribe pen, thanks to a hidden pen holder (please note that the holder doesn’t support magnetic attachment).

▸ The sleeve is available in four elegant color variants: Gray, Khaki, Light Blue, and Pink. The price is currently set at $28.99.

13. Shockproof hybrid case cover for Kindle Scribe

Shockproof hybrid slim case for Kindle Scribe / Image: Amazon

Our pick: Best shockproof case for Kindle Scribe

▸ Kindle Scribe is the device you will be using much more actively than any other Kindle. That’s why a heavy-duty case is most welcomed.

▸ One of the best heavy-duty options available on Amazon for Kindle Scribe is a shockproof case from Fintie.

▸ The case sports the double-layer construction that will help you avoid damage much better than other Scribe compatible cases. The backshell is made of a solid plastic back and a thick frame with enhanced corner protection.

▸ The ffont cover comes with built-in magnets to support the auto sleep & wake feature. Plus, there is a stylus loop on the top edge to make sure you will never lose the pen.

▸ One color is available so far. The price is currently set at $34.99, which is 13% lower than the regular $39.99.

Our score: 8.2/10

14. “Magical Library” folio stand case

“Magical Library” folio Kindle Scribe stand cover / Image: Amazon

Our pick: Best-looking Kindle Scribe case cover

▸ Are you looking for a book-themed case cover that will show how much you live books, reading, and learning?

▸ Take a look at this gorgeous design offered on a folio case cover by Fintie, one of the most popular third-party case producers on Amazon.

▸ The gorgeous digitally enhanced image of a library wall with vintage books from top to bottom is featured on both front and back.

▸ The case comes with a built-in kickstand that will allow you to position the Scribe at the right angle when in portrait mode.

▸ Another, smaller kickstand is used to form a stand for a landscape view – a perfect solution if you are using your Scribe in a two-page mode.

▸ The cover comes with five designs. Besides the Library, you can pick up Lilac Marble, and Shades of Blue.

▸ The price at the time of writing this post is set at $35.99.

15. Vertical tri-fold flip case with a stand

Vertical tri-fold Kindle Scribe stand cover
Vertical tri-fold Kindle Scribe stand cover / Image: Amazon

Our pick: Best vertical stand for Kindle Scribe

▸ If you’d love to have the official Kindle Scribe but, but it’s far too expensive, you can pick up an alternative from a third-party producer.

▸ A case that’s worth taking a look comes from Fintie. It offers the same design as the original Amazon cover: a tri-fold front folds back over the top to form a stand.

▸ The case comes with a stylus loop at the bottom edge. Open sides let you attach the pen magnetically.

▸ A ribbon built into the front cover keeps the cover closed and prevents it from opening accidentally.

▸ So far, only the Black color is offered. The price is $35.99, which is $25 less than the fabric cover from Amazon.

Our score: 8.2/10

16. Kindle Scribe composition notebook case

Kindle Scribe composition notebook case
Best composition notebook slim case for Amazon Kindle Scribe / Image: Amazon

Our pick: Best composition book case for Kindle Scribe

▸ Amazon Kindle Scribe, with its handwritten document markup and ability to create handwritten notes, annotations, and checklists, is a modern personalization of a composition notebook.

▸ What is the symbol of composition notebooks? An iconic pseudo-marbling pattern that emerged in Western Europe in the mid-19th century.

▸ This classic design is now available on a Kindle Scribe case! It’s offered by Fintie, and comes with a stylus loop and the auto sleep & wake support.

▸ The Scribe is a large device that’s heavier than the Kindle you’ve had before. There is no reason to add to it an extra bulk.

▸ The composition notebook case from Fintie is a slimshell case with a thin front cover and a solid backshell – both lined with a soft microfiber to protect against dust and scratches.

▸ The case comes in a range that also includes Library, Lilac Marble, and Alpine Green designs.

▸ The price at the time of updating this post is set at $39.99. We haven’t seen price drops yet.

Basic Kindle 11th generation (2022) specs and comparisons https://ebookfriendly.com/kindle-11-2022-basic-specs-comparisons/ https://ebookfriendly.com/kindle-11-2022-basic-specs-comparisons/#comments Thu, 13 Oct 2022 10:33:41 +0000 https://ebookfriendly.com/?p=155611 Crisp 300 ppi display, adjustable front light, fast USB-C port, and 16 GB of storage are the main benefits of Kindle 11 released in 2022. Is it worth spending $100? Take a deep dive into specs and comparisons.

The newest entry-level Kindle model was announced on September 13, 2022. It was available for pre-order on the same day, with shippings starting on October 12, 2022.

If you’d like to learn whether the new Kindle fits your own needs, make sure to explore the list of things to know before buying Kindle 11.

If you prefer to dive into full tech specs and comparisons, including the visualization dimensions, make sure to keep reading this overview.

It’s the 11th-generation Kindle, according to Amazon’s device classification. The 2022 Kindle model costs $99 and comes with a crisp 300 dpi display, USB-C port, 16 GB memory, and a battery that lasts up to 6 weeks.

On the other hand, it is not waterproof, doesn’t feature the all-glass front, there is no warm light feature, and the front light is not auto-adjusting.

Is the 2022 Kindle 11 still on your radar, despite the disadvantages? Let’s dive into down-to-earth details in one handy list.

Basic Kindle 11 (2022) – main features

Basic Kindle 11 2022 in Black and Denim
Basic Kindle model (11th-generation) is available in Black and Denim / Image: Amazon

16 GB storage – at the time of launch, the 2022 Kindle model offers 16 GB of storage, out of which approximately 14 GB is available to the user. It’s worth noting that so far, the Paperwhite 5 was offered with 8 GB of storage, but the 16 GB variant was introduced at the same time Kindle 11 was announced.

6-inch, 300 ppi touchscreen – the new high-resolution display has three times more pixels than the previous model, offering sharper text and images in a paper-like feel. The previous-generation basic Kindle from 2019 had a display with a 167 ppi pixel density, the new one offers 300 ppi.

USB-C port – USB-C becomes the standard in charging and data transfer. It lets you charge and send data to and from the Kindle much faster than the standard USB port. You will need approximately 2 hours to fully charge the Kindle 11 using a 9W USB-C power adapter (not included in the box).

6 weeks of battery life – the new Kindle 11 offers 50% more battery life than the previous generation basic Kindle model. Instead of 4, you now have 6 weeks of peace of mind, before you start looking for a charger. The calculation is based on the assumption that you read for half an hour a day, with the display brightness set at level 13.

Dark Mode – like the 6.8-inch Kindle Paperwhite and the latest Kindle Scribe, the 2022 Kindle comes with the Dark Mode. The feature inverts colors on the screen. The display background is black and text is white. You can toggle Dark Mode in the Quick Access menu.

Built-in Audible player – just like other models, Kindle 11 doesn’t come with either speakers or headphone jack. However, you can easily listen to Audible audiobooks via connected Bluetooth earphones or speakers.

Amazon Kindle 11 2022 – specs comparison

Kindle 11 vs Paperwhite 5 comparison
Specs comparison: Kindle 11 (2022) versus Kindle Paperwhite 5 (2021) / Images: Ebook Friendly

When you consider getting the most affordable Kindle model, a comparison to the 6.8-inch Kindle Paperwhite 5 is inevitable. It’s a question of spending the equivalent of an original Amazon case cover ($30-$40).

You pay $40 more and you get a more advanced e-reader, the one that would meet not only your current needs but also the ones that may arise in the future.

On the other hand, you should ask yourself a question: do I really need a waterproof e-reader with a warm light? The basic Kindle comes with the crisp Paperwhite-like display, most probably the one that’s the same or similar to the display used in the previous-generation Kindle Paperwhite. The high-resolution screen that displays the sharp and readable text, no matter the size of the font, is the most important feature of the dedicated e-reading device.

So, how does the latest basic Kindle released in 2022 stack up against the regular variant of the 6.8-inch Paperwhite? Let’s have a look at a comparison table.

Basic Kindle 11 2022 – size comparison

If you have complained about the display size of your previous Kindle, you should carefully compare the dimensions of the basic Kindle 2022 and Kindle Paperwhite 5, released in 2021.

The first device comes with a 6-inch display – the same size and almost all previous Kindle models, except the DX and Oasis. The latter device comes with a 6.8-inch display.

The Paperwhite’s display offers 13% more space than the display of the 2022 basic Kindle model – without actually being much larger in general. The larger display allows to enlarge the font much more, without the need to reduce margins and line spacing.

Find below the size comparison between the base Kindle 2022 (11th-generation) and the Kindle Paperwhite 5 (2021).

17 best 6.8-inch Kindle Paperwhite 5 cases and sleeves in 2023-24 https://ebookfriendly.com/kindle-paperwhite-6-8-case-covers-sleeves/ https://ebookfriendly.com/kindle-paperwhite-6-8-case-covers-sleeves/#comments Sun, 02 Oct 2022 10:51:00 +0000 https://ebookfriendly.com/?p=152732 Investigating options for protecting your 6.8-inch Kindle Paperwhite 5? Take a look at the list, which includes also some highly uncommon ideas.

The 6.8-inch Paperwhite is taking the hearts of Kindle lovers by storm. It’s not surprising – the device features many long-expected features.

The 5th-generation Kindle Paperwhite sports the bigger 6.8-inch display, which is 13% larger than in the previous-generation model. Despite the larger display, Kindle Paperwhite 5 is not significantly bigger than the 4th generation.

Kindle Paperwhite 5 is the second Kindle model, after Oasis, to get the warm light. In the evening, you can switch from blue light to a warmer tone to reduce eye strain and minimize the negative effect on sleep.

Paperwhite 5 is the first Kindle to sport the USB-C port for faster charging and data transfer. It’s a useful feature if you add own books and audiobooks via the cable. Recharging via USB-C charger takes less than 3 hours.

The battery life in the 6.8-inch Kindle Paperwhite can run even 10 weeks on a single charge. The battery life is based on a half hour of reading per day, with Wi-Fi connection turned off, and the brightness level set at 13.

Kindle Paperwhite 6.8 case covers – things to know

▸ The new Kindle Paperwhite (5th generation) has different dimensions than the earlier model. Your Paperwhite 4 case cover will not fit the model released in 2021.

▸ If you bought a sleeve for Kindle Oasis 2 or 3, the bad news is that it will not fit Paperwhite 6.8. Although the Oasis sports the 7-inch display, it is much lower than the new Paperwhite (see the size comparison below).

Kindle Paperwhite 6.8 is higher than Kindle Oasis 3
A sleeve for Kindle Oasis 3 will not fit Kindle Paperwhite 6.8 (2021)

▸ If you plan to buy the sleeve, remember that Kindle Paperwhite 5 is a bit bigger and higher than the basic Kindle and earlier Paperwhite. Don’t pick up a sleeve for “6-inch e-readers,” because it may be too tight for the 6.8-inch Paperwhite.

Kindle Paperwhite 6.8 – what instead of the official cover?

If, for some reason, you prefer not to buy the official Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 6.8 case cover, you can do the following:

1. Buy a sleeve or pouch – it’s the option I have chosen. A good thing about sleeves is that they will be compatible with more than one Kindle model. Plus, you really don’t need a protection when reading. You need a protection when carrying a device.

2. Buy a third-party case – Kindle Paperwhite 6.8 from independent producers are already available in large variety. They offer similar or more features compared to original or featured cover, but most of them you can get them at the price range between $10 and $20.

If you want to find out currently available options, browse Amazon for Kindle Paperwhite 6.8 case cover.

The best Kindle Paperwhite 5 (6.8-inch) case covers and sleeves

1. Vertical multi-angle stand cover

Vertical flip stand for Kindle Paperwhite 6.8 2021
Vertical multi-angle stand cover for Kindle Paperwhite 6.8-inch / Image: Amazon

Our pick: The best vertical stand for Kindle Paperwhite 6.8

▸ If you are looking for a vertical stand that’s tailored for your new 6.8-inch Kindle Paperwhite, you can choose from a few available models on Amazon.

▸ I have picked up a case from Fintie, as it offers a proven quality and the widest range of colors. You can select the Black or Navy variant, but you can also brighten up your day with the Pink Marble or Spring Blossom patterns.

▸ The case can be turned into a vertical mode stand, and you can set it up in one of three reading angles. The device is held securely inside an elastic faux leather frame, and you have access to both the USB-C charging port and power button.

▸ Just like most other Kindle Paperwhite 6.8 cases, the Fintie Flip Stand supports auto sleep & wake feature via built-in magnets. The same magnets are used to keep the case’s front closed.

▸ The price at the time of updating this post is set at $17.90, instead of a regular $35.99.

Our score: 8.1/10

2. Handmade case with embroidered owl

Stylish embroidered Kindle Paperwhite 6.8-inch case cover

▸ Here is something for anyone who is looking for a case that offers a minimalist look and authentic touch of style.

▸ Handcrafted to order in the UK, the case is created from upholstery fabric in graphite color and velvet.

▸ The Kindle is held in place with four elastic corner straps that will not damage the e-reader.

▸ The best thing about this case is the front image. It’s the detailed suncatcher owl embroidery in light gray color.

▸ The current price is $49. When placing an order, please make sure to pick up “Paperwhite 6.8 2021” from a device drop-down list.

3. Slim and lightweight alternative to original Amazon cover

Nupro Kindle Paperwhite 5 2021 book cover
NuPro offers a slim and lightweight alternative to the official Amazon Kindle cover / Image: Amazon

▸ If you want to explore other options than just official Amazon Kindle Paperwhite covers, take a closer look at NuPro.

▸ Bearing an Amazon Choice badge for the reasonable combination of price and quality, the case looks and is slimmer than the original one. It supports auto sleep & wake function, and is made of smooth and lightweight polyurethane, which is surprisingly durable.

▸ You can fold the front completely to enable one-handed reading. The outside layer, microfiber interior, and the visible parts of the plastic back frame are all in the same color.

▸ The cover is available in three colors: Black, Navy Blue, and Lavender.

▸ The price at the time of updating this list is $26.99, and it rarely goes down.

4. Slim folio case with unique designs

Cute Kindle Paperwhite 11th-generation 6.8-inch case

Our pick: The best-designed covers for Kindle Paperwhite 6.8

▸ If you want to get a classic slim folio case for your new Kindle Paperwhite 6.8, but want to have a unique design, take a look at the range from Ayotu.

▸ The most popular is the design showing a cute elephant with headphones standing on a deep green background. I also like the girl reaching for a book in a library, and a colorful flower and fruit pattern.

▸ The cases feature strong magnets. The magnets are used to wake up the device when you open the case, and put it to sleep on closing. They are also needed to keep the case closed when carrying it.

▸ Please make sure to pick up “6.8-inch Kindle Paperwhite 11th Gen 2021” before selecting the color variant.

▸ Just like all folio cases for Kindle Paperwhite, the Ayotu supports charging via the Wireless Charging Dock (which is compatible only with the Signature Edition of the 11th-generation Kindle Paperwhite).

▸ The case is affordable, compared to similar ones from other producers. It currently costs $15.99.

Our score: 8.2/10

5. Original Kindle Paperwhite 6.8 cork cover

Original cork Kindle Paperwhite 5 (2021) cover case 6-8-inch
Cork case cover for Kindle Paperwhite 6.8 / Images: Amazon

Our pick: The best cork cover for Kindle Paperwhite 5 (6.8-inch)

▸ If I were to choose one official Kindle case, it would be this one. It’s made of cork – a material which ages like wine: the older it is, the better it looks. As the time flies, it wears beautifully, and becomes more authentic.

▸ What’s more, the cork is waterproof, what complements perfectly the waterproof IPX8 features of the Kindle Paperwhite released in 2021.

▸ If the case is made the same way as the one for Kindle Paperwhite 4, it means it is climate pledge friendly. Amazon claims that 23-27% of its base is made from post-consumer recycled content.

▸ The cork cover for Kindle Paperwhite is expensive. It costs currently $43.99, but the regular price is $49.99. You can choose from two color variants: Light Cork, and Dark Cork.

6. Natural cotton sleeve for Paperwhite 6.8

Natural cotton sleeve for Kindle Paperwhite 5 (6.8")
Natural cotton sleeve for Paperwhite 6.8 / Image: Etsy

▸ If you consider getting a sleeve for your new Paperwhite, you don’t have to limit yourself to Amazon.

▸ On Etsy, a leading marketplace with artisan goods, you can find thousands of gorgeous cases and sleeves that are handmade to order.

▸ Take a look at the sleeve from Bluebird Handmade Case. It’s made of gray-white herringbone linen fabric, and comes with a 5 mm foam for extra protection. Just like most other sleeves on Etsy, it closes with a stylish wooden button.

▸ To make sure you get the sleeve that exactly fits your Kindle Paperwhite 6.8, make sure to type the dimensions in the message to the seller when placing an order.

▸ If you want to use the sleeve for the Kindle with the case on, please mention it as well. The price is set at $29.99.

7. Universal e-reader case with a built-in stand

Universal e-reader case for hands-free reading - best for Kindle Paperwhite 5 6.8-inch
This universal e-reader case with a built-in stand fits Kindle Paperwhite 5 / Image: Amazon

▸ The problem with any dedicated case is that it becomes useless the moment your new Kindle arrives. That’s why I am determined to find solutions that would work not only with the current model but also next ones.

▸ The case offered on Amazon by Solo New York looks beautiful, but most importantly, it is compatible with all mobile devices that are 5.5-8.5 inches in size.

▸ You will be able to use it with your 6.8-inch Kindle Paperwhite, but also with Amazon Fire HD 8 or iPad mini 6 if you change your mind.

▸ Most importantly, the case has a built-in stand. It will enable you to read ebooks hands free, something that’s most welcomed during long reading sessions.

▸ The case forms a landscape stand, not a vertical one, but that’s not a problem as you can change the orientation on your Kindle Paperwhite right in the Aa menu.

▸ The price of this case is $19.99. It looks like a deal (down from $31.99), but every time we visit the page, the lower price stays there.

8. Official Kindle Paperwhite 6.8 leather cover

Official 5th-generation Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 6.8 2021 leather case cover
Original Amazon case cover for Kindle Paperwhite 6.8-inch (5th-generation) / Image: Amazon

▸ The case sports the typical Kindle book-like design, with a hard plastic back shell. It supports auto sleep & wake feature. There is no way to create a stand.

▸ The front folds back completely, letting you read one-handed. Inside, there is a soft microfiber surface to protect the screen from scratches.

▸ The case is made of textured leather. The leather is genuine, not faux. Some users may like it, I don’t.

▸ Four colors are available: Black, Merlot, Deep Sea Blue (new), and Lavender Haze (new). The price is $39.99 – it’s a regular price, even if you see the “deal” badge.

9. Water-resistant sleeve bag – fits Paperwhite 6.8

Waterproof sleeve - fits Kindle Paperwhite 6.8 2021 (5 generation)
Waterproof e-reader sleeve for Kindle Paperwhite / Image: Amazon

Our pick: Best sleeve for Kindle Paperwhite 5

▸ From Kizuna comes a tablet sleeve that’s worth taking a look if you plan to give your Kindle Paperwhite 6.8 a combined case+sleeve protection.

▸ The sleeve is made of water-repellent neoprene, which protects the device from splashing water or mild rain.

▸ A soft and fluffy internal layer effectively absorbs impacts to reduce damage caused by accidental drops.

▸ The sleeve is available in two sizes. Make sure to pick up the one for 7.9-8-inch tablets. It will be large enough to accommodate your Kindle Paperwhite with a case.

▸ The price of this versatile sleeve is only $11.99. It’s worth considering getting it, as it will serve you for much longer than one generation Kindle.

Our score: 8.1/10

10. Official fabric case for Kindle Paperwhite 6.8-inch

Official fabric Kindle Paperwhite 5 (6.8-inch, 2021 release) case cover
Official Kindle Paperwhite 5 fabric cover / Image: Amazon

▸ If you want to give your Kindle an immediate protection without spending too much money, the official fabric case is the most reasonable solution.

▸ It’s the most affordable Amazon Kindle case, but – opposite to the leather cover – it is “water-safe”. It means that if you accidentally drop it into water, for instance when taking a bath, no damage will be done. A water-safe case is a good solution for Kindle Paperwhite – a device which is waterproof itself.

▸ What’s more, Amazon Kindle fabric case can be renewed with a surprisingly good result, and can serve you for the next few years.

▸ The case color range for the newest Kindle Paperwhite is the same as for the leather variant: Black, Deep Sea Blue, and Lavender Haze. Unfortunately, the Merlot version is missing.

▸ For a long time, the regular price of the fabric cover was set at $29.99. Now it’s up to $34.99 – but the current deal lets you get it for $30.99.

11. Faux fabric case with wireless charging support

Alternative fabric cover for Kindle Paperwhite 6.8-inch 11th gen
CoBak wireless charging compatible cover for Kindle Paperwhite 5 / Image: Amazon

▸ An original Amazon case is not the only one that comes has a fabric feel. CoBak offers an affordable alternative that is suitable for anyone who considers getting a Wireless Charging Dock.

▸ This stylish gray case features a fabric-like pattern that looks almost like a real fabric. A benefit of getting the faux fabric (just like the leather) is that it will wear out slower, and you wouldn’t need to renew it.

▸ Four layers guarantee the maximum protection: the water-safe outside, magnet layer to support auto sleep & wake, fiberglass panels for enhanced drop protection, and microfiber interior to protect against scratches and dust.

▸ Most importantly, the case’s backshell frame is designed in such a way that it is compatible with Amazon’s Wireless Charging Stand. Please note, that wireless charging is available only in Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition.

▸ The entire range includes 15 variants, besides the fabric one. The company offers an unconditional 18-day money-back guarantee, and 18-month hassle-free support service.

▸ The price at the time of updating the overview is set at $18.99 – $3 higher than at the launch time.

12. Affordable felt sleeve with an extra pocket

Kindle Paperwhite 6.8 compatible landscape felt sleeve from MoKo
Slim felt sleeve for Kindle Paperwhite 5 (6.8-inch) / Image: Amazon

▸ A sleeve for 7-8 inch tablets and e-readers will definitely fit the newest Kindle Paperwhite 6.8″, with enough space to put the device even with a case.

▸ From one of the most popular case producers, MoKo, comes a felt sleeve that’s worth taking a look. There are two size versions; make sure to pick up the one for 7 or 8-inch devices.

▸ The sleeve is made of premium felt that absorbs shock. The interior is lined with a special material that’s mold-proof and water-resistant.

▸ The sleeve closes with a Velcro made of faux leather. There is an internal pocket where you can place your phone, cables, or a library card.

▸ The price is currently set at $10.99 – the lowest ever recorded.

13. Cozy book sleeve – a tablet sleeve alternative

Cute book sleeve - alternative Kindle Paperwhite 5 6.8 sleeve
A print book sleeve from Kapax is surprisingly suitable for Kindle Paperwhite / Image: Amazon

▸ Tablet and e-reader sleeves are practical, but rarely beautiful. They are usually black or gray, or resemble a leather look.

▸ If you want something dramatically way more cheerful, why not going for a way more cheerful product category – that is a surprisingly well-fitted into the new Kindle Paperwhite. I’m talking about a book sleeve – a sleeve designed to protect and carry paper books.

▸ My favorite brand here is Kapax. The sleeves from this particular series are all 10 × 8 inch (25 × 20 cm) and will fit your Kindle Paperwhite with a space for a standard case if you still need it.

▸ Each book sleeve closes with a Velcro on the top side, and features external pockets for a notepad, pen, or a library card.

▸ There are three colors to choose from, and all are stunning! The prices are set at $17.99 for each variant.

14. Weatherproof notebook zipper cover – fits Kindle Paperwhite 6.8

Alternative Kindle Paperwhite 5 6.8-inch zipper sleeve
The Rite in the Rain side bound cover fits perfectly Kindle Paperwhite 6.8 / Image: Amazon

Our pick: Best alternative cover for Kindle Paperwhite 5

▸ If you are looking for alternative ways to protect your Kindle, I recommend a solution I’m testing myself – and I’m very pleased.

▸ This product was not intended to be used with Kindle Paperwhite 6.8 or any other e-reader – but it serves its purpose brilliantly. I’m talking about the side bound notebook cover from Rite in the Rain.

▸ This solid and durable is made of incredibly tough Cordura fabric that’s water and weather resistant. The pouch closes with a solid, rugged zipper closure.

▸ Inside, there are two large pockets for notebooks, on the left and right side. Each one will fit the 6.8-inch Kindle Paperwhite (and all previous models except the Oasis). Inside, there are also four pen-size holders, and a pocket for a credit card.

▸ In fact, the cover was made to fit 4.75 × 7.5 inch notepads, so it will perfectly fit the Paperwhite.

Through storms, travel, and daily wear and tear, Rite in the Rain pouches and covers can take a pounding while protecting and organizing your notes.

– Producer’s description

▸ The cover is available in three colors: Black, Tan, and Camo, but they are sold as separate items on Amazon. The Camo version currently costs $31.99.

Our score: 8.1/10

15. Folio stand with hand strap and kickstand

Functional Kindle Paperwhite 6.8
Folio stand with a hand strap for Kindle Paperwhite 5 / Image: Amazon

▸ This case is not the lightest one, and it feels more like a hardcover book. On the other side, it offers two features that will make reading on your Kindle Paperwhite 6.8 much more enjoyable.

▸ First, the case comes with a hand strap that is hidden in the inside of the front cover. It’s especially helpful if you want to make sure the Kindle won’t accidentally fall down, for instance, when you fall asleep while reading.

▸ The second feature is a kickstand, which is also hidden in the front cover. The stand will let you read a book when your hands are busy, drinking coffee and eating marshmallows.

▸ Please note, that the kickstand will not work on uneven surfaces, such as sofa or bed. Make sure to check out our list of accessories for hands-free reading.

▸ The current price is $22.99.

16. Kindle Paperwhite 6.8 Kids bundle with a black case

Kindle Paperwhite 5 (2021) 6.8 with black cover
Kindle Paperwhite bundle is a way to save money on the case cover / Image: Amazon

Our pick: The best Kindle Paperwhite 5 (6.8-inch) bundle

▸ This item is actually an idea of how to save on buying an original case for your new Kindle Paperwhite 5 – get a Kids Edition.

Kindle Paperwhite 5 Kids includes four elements:

  • Kindle Paperwhite 5 Regular – worth $139.99
  • 1 year of Amazon Kids+ digital subscription free of charge – the subscription costs $2.99 per month
  • Kid-friendly cover available in three colors: Black, Robot Dreams, Trees – an original Amazon case cover purchased separately would cost you $29.99.
  • 2-year worry-free guarantee – if the device breaks, you can return it, and Amazon will replace it for free without any questions asked.

▸ The regular price of Kindle Paperwhite 5 Kids is $159.99, which is only $20 more than for the regular variant. Amazon claims the total value of all elements bought separately is up to $269.

▸ If you bought the black variant for yourself, you would save $10 on the original cover (which costs $30) alone and have a worry-free guarantee for two years. A great solution if you prefer not to buy cheaper third-party case covers.

Our score: 7.9/10

17. Popular book-style Kindle Paperwhite 5 case

MoKo Kindle Paperwhite 5 6.8-inch case
Gorgeous book-style Kindle Paperwhite 6.8 (5th-generation) case cover / Image: Amazon

Our pick: Most reliable third-party Paperwhite 5 cover

▸ If you are looking for an affordable Kindle Paperwhite case from a trusted third-party producer, you are most probably considering MoKo.

▸ The company offers a few designs tailored for the 5th-generation Kindle Paperwhite, and I have picked up the slimmest one. This is a classic lightweight folio case with an auto sleep & wake support, and the back shell in the same color as the front.

▸ The case comes in 12 color variants. Among them, you will find the one resembling a good old print book (shown above) that’s made of faux, not genuine leather.

▸ Most variants are made of water-resistant material, which means that it will go back to the previous state after you accidentally drop it into water.

▸ Just like for most other products, MoKo offers a lifetime warranty for the Kindle Paperwhite 5 (6.8-inch) folio case.

▸ The price at the time of updating this list is set at $18.99.

Our score: 8.2/10
