Barnes & Noble’s biggest books of fall 2017
The Girl Who Takes an Eye for an Eye (Millennium Series Book #5)
David Lagercrantz
From the author of the #1 international bestseller The Girl in the Spider’s Web, comes the fifth novel in the Millennium series.
Lisbeth Salander, the girl with the dragon tattoo and the brilliant hacker – even she has never been able to uncover the most telling facts of her traumatic childhood. Now, when she sees a chance to uncover it, she enlists the help of Mikael Blomkvist, the editor of the muckraking, investigative journal Millennium.
And she will let nothing stop her—not the Islamists she enrages by rescuing a young woman from their brutality; not the prison gang leader who passes a death sentence on her; not the deadly reach of her long-lost twin sister, Camilla.
A Column of Fire (Kingsbridge Series Book #3)
Ken Follett
Ken Follett’s bestselling saga started with The Pillars of the Earth, taking place in a fictional medieval town Kingsbridge, continues with the new magnificent epic.
Ned Willard wants nothing more than to marry Margery Fitzgerald. But the lovers find themselves on opposing sides of the religious conflict between Catholics and Protestants dividing the country.
The real enemies, then as now, are not the rival religions. The true battle pitches those who believe in tolerance and compromise against the tyrants who would impose their ideas on everyone else—no matter what the cost.
The new novel will delight longtime fans of the Kingsbridge series and is the perfect introduction for readers new to Ken Follett.
the sun and her flowers
Rupi Kaur
From Rupi Kaur, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of milk and honey, comes her long-awaited second collection of poetry.
A vibrant and transcendent journey about growth and healing. Ancestry and honoring one’s roots. Expatriation and rising up to find a home within yourself.
Divided into five chapters and illustrated by Kaur, the sun and her flowers is a journey of wilting, falling, rooting, rising, and blooming. A celebration of love in all its forms.
this is the recipe of life
said my mother
as she held me in her arms as i wept
think of those flowers you plant
in the garden each year
they will teach you
that people too
must wilt
fall
root
rise
in order to bloom
Origin (Robert Langdon Series Book #5)
Dan Brown
You were waiting for it. Robert Langdon returns in Dan Brown’s new stunningly inventive and entertaining novel.
Langdon arrives at the ultramodern Guggenheim Museum Bilbao to attend a major announcement—the unveiling of a discovery that “will change the face of science forever.” The evening’s host is Edmond Kirsch, a billionaire whose dazzling high-tech inventions and audacious predictions have made him a renowned global figure.
When the meticulously orchestrated presentation erupts into chaos, Robert Langdon is forced into a desperate bid to escape Bilbao. With him is Ambra Vidal, the elegant museum director who worked with Kirsch to stage the provocative event.
Turtles All the Way Down
John Green
#1 bestselling author John Green returns with his first new novel since The Fault in Our Stars!
Sixteen-year-old Aza never intended to pursue the mystery of fugitive billionaire Russell Pickett, but there’s a hundred-thousand-dollar reward at stake and her Best and Most Fearless Friend, Daisy, is eager to investigate. So together, they navigate the short distance and broad divides that separate them from Russell Pickett’s son, Davis.
Aza is trying. She is trying to be a good daughter, a good friend, a good student, and maybe even a good detective, while also living within the ever-tightening spiral of her own thoughts.
Leonardo da Vinci
Walter Isaacson
Based on thousands of pages from Leonardo’s astonishing notebooks and new discoveries about his life and work, Walter Isaacson weaves a narrative that connects his art to his science.
In his new book, Isaacson shows how Leonardo’s genius was based on skills we can improve in ourselves, such as passionate curiosity, careful observation, and an imagination so playful that it flirted with fantasy.
Leonardo’s delight at combining diverse passions remains the ultimate recipe for creativity. So, too, does his ease at being a bit of a misfit: illegitimate, gay, vegetarian, left-handed, easily distracted, and at times heretical.
The Rooster Bar
John Grisham
John Grisham’s newest legal thriller takes you inside a law firm that’s on shaky ground.
Mark, Todd, and Zola came to law school to change the world, to make it a better place. But now, as third-year students, these close friends realize they have been duped.
And when they learn that their school is one of a chain owned by a shady New York hedge-fund operator who also happens to own a bank specializing in student loans, the three know they have been caught up in The Great Law School Scam.
But maybe there’s a way out. Maybe there’s a way to escape their crushing debt, expose the bank and the scam, and make a few bucks in the process.
