The eight-part miniseries will cover Isabel Wilkerson’s “Caste: The Origin of Our Discontents,” with the premiere episode now available for free on Apple Podcasts.
Oprah Winfrey has started a brand-new chapter of her ongoing partnership with Apple, launching the first episode of Oprah’s Book Club on Apple Podcasts on September 8. The podcast is an extension of the Apple TV+ series of the same title.
Over a series of eight episodes, the podcast will provide listeners with an in-depth discussion over New York Times nonfiction bestseller “Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents” by Isabel Wilkerson. Published on August 4, the book delves into the structure and origins of racial injustice in the United States, with Oprah describing it as a “must-read for humanity” packed with “so many Aha! moments your highlighter will run out of ink.”
New episodes will be released every Tuesday and Thursday, with the trailer and 35-minute-long premiere episode already available to listen to via the Podcasts app.
Every episode will focus specifically on each “pillar” as outlined in the book. Hosted by Winfrey and the author Isabel Wilkerson herself, the podcast will also feature a diverse group of guests to discuss each of the eight pillars, The Hollywood Reporter reveals.
I am honored and thrilled that ‘Caste’ has been chosen for Oprah’s Book Club and that its humanitarian insights will now reach a wider audience,” Wilkerson says in a statement. “This work shows that the term racism may be insufficient in our current era. We need new language, a new framework for understanding our divisions and how we got to where we are (and) ‘Caste’ gives us this language.
A condensed interview between Winfrey and Wilkerson will be available to stream on Apple Music. Oprah will also curate a collection of articles related to “Caste” on Apple News as the app’s first-ever guest editor.
Oprah’s Book Club was first launched as a segment of The Oprah Winfrey Show in 1996 and has since recommended seventy books, many of which have become bestsellers due to the club’s widespread popularity.
